Hi Mike,
Well, you could be doing one of three things wrong. Your workout intensity may not be sufficient to stimulate growth, you may be overtraining, or you may not be consuming sufficient calories to maintain your new muscle mass. If you monitor and record your workouts you'll be able to know conclusively if your workouts are increasing in intensity. If they were, and you've become weaker, then you aren't allowing enough time to recover or your diet is lacking. There is no right way when it comes to this. If you are not taking drugs in order to grow, then a natural bodybuilder may need 1 to 2 weeks to recover from a single session if you are relatively strong. This is much much longer than what muscle mags recommend, but it is the case. Start first by recording your sessions and calculating intensity as I've discussed here, and from there you can troubleshoot easier. Good luck.
